School officials in Westbrook are responding to the latest incident of underage drinking involving some student athletes.
On Tuesday night around 11:30 Westbrook Police responded to a report of a loud party at 6 Sargent Street. When they arrived they found several underage people consuming alcohol. At least three of them are members of Westbrook High's championship baseball team. Two people were arrested including Ryan Gilligan who lived at that address. He was charged with refusing to submit to arrest and providing a place for minors to drink. Ten others were summonsed.
Tuesday night's bust comes after a highly publicized incident in the fall involving 30 student athletes drinking and heavy criticism about the way that case was handled. Superintendent Marc Gousse admits mistakes were were made with that last incident, but he points out the drinking in both cases took place after school hours, off school grounds
"We need help, we need support, we need resources as a community. This is a community issue that's in the schools, it's not a school issue in the community", said Marc Gousse, Superintendent of Schools.
Gousse says disciplinary actions against the students have not yet been determined. The baseball team plays again tomorrow and it's unlikely any of those three players will be on the field.
