ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- It was a day of celebration, marking the end of one chapter of life and the beginning of another. The University of Maine held its 212th commencement ceremony for the more than 1-thousand graduates of the college.
Saturday's University of Maine graduates and attendants had mixed emotions after the college's Commencement Ceremony for the class of 2014.
"Excitement and nervousness," said graduate Katie Jones.
"Fulfulling," said graduate Steven Rice.
"Relief! He made it through! It's awesome. It's an awesome day," said Leslie Rice.
Rice couldn't be more proud of her son Steven for completing his college career and earning a degree in Secondary Education. And Steven can't wait to put that degree to good use.
"My first thought it I'm finally done! I'm really excited to be graduating, actually, and moving on to real life. In terms of being a teacher, I know it's really what I want to do with my life so I'd like to start my career and get going," Steven said.
Families came to support their loved ones as they received bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees.
"It's awesome! It's really nice to have them throughout all four years and especially here today," said graduate Breianna Tocci.
"Can't thank them enough for all that they've given me, all the opportunities and the great experience they allowed me to have here at UMaine," said Nicholas Lee, also a graduate.
Their were hugs, cheers, and even a few tears at the ceremony- But there was also plenty of Black Bear Pride. Lee has one thing to say to those who are just starting their college journey.
"You're in a great place. I think that's really the best way to put it."
